Differentiation of Interatrial
نویسنده
چکیده
THE 4 forms of interatrial comnmunication -ostium secundum, ostium primum, common atrium, and total anomalous pulmonary venous connection-are associated with clinical symptoms and signs and radiologic, electrocardiographic, anid physiologic features that permit proper differential diagnosis in most instanees. The usual type of atrial septal defect, ostium secundum, is by far the most common form of interatrial communication, and it is one that can be repaired by several different satisfactory surgical technics. Ostium primum defects (partial form of common atrioventricular canal), total anomalous pulmonary venous coninection, and commoni atrium are examples of less common forms of communication between the atria and require open cardiotomy with the use of extracorporeal circulation for satisfactory surgical treatment. Accuracy of diagnosis is, therefore, of practical importance for selection of patients for operation.

Interatrial Block: A Virtual Pandemic Requiring Attention
Interatrial block (IAB) denotes a conduction delay between the two atria (P-wave duration ≥110 ms). Depending on the severity of the block, IAB can be partial or advanced. Even though several studies have reported a high prevalence of IAB, it still remains a diagnosis many neglect without any follow-up. The crisis in IAB is undramatic until predictable complications appear. Nevertheless, the da...
متن کاملCross-sectional echocardiographic examination of the interatrial septum.
The interatrial septum has not been readily appreciated by M-mode echocardiography. Cross-sectional echocardiography has the capability of recording the shape and location of the interatrial septum. Real-time cross-sectional echograms using a mechanically oscillating transducer were obtained on 100 consecutive patients. Echocardiographic examination of the left atrium and aorta was obtained in ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Bronchial Asthma on Interatrial Electromechanical Delay Coupling Obtained Using Tissue Doppler Imaging
Background: Asthma is a predisposing factor for the development of atrial fibrillation. Asthma disturbs the electrophysiology in the right and left atrium. The aim of this study was to evaluate atrial electromechanical delay by coupling obtained from tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) in children. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 patients with Bronchial Asthma, compared with 50 hea...
متن کاملNegative contrast echocardiography: a new method for detecting left-to-right shunts.
Cross-sectional echocardiographic visualization of the interatrial septum in both normal persons and patients with atrial septal defects has been reported. Although septal defects can generally be visualized, false positives are frequently encountered. This study evaluated whether visualizing the patterns of contrast flow in the region of an apparent atrial septal defect by cross-sectional echo...
متن کاملCardiocascular images. M-mode echocardiographic demonstration of atrial flutter.
In cases with narrow QRS-complex tachycardia, prompt differentiation of the etiology is crucial in management. M-mode echocardiographic examination of the interatrial septum can give important information in the emergency department. A 57-year-old man who had palpitation and dyspnea for 2 days visited our emergency department. The initial ECG showed negative saw-tooth–shaped atrial activity in ...
متن کاملDiagnosis of endocardial cushion defect with cross-sectional and M-mode scanning echocardiography. Differentiation from secundum atrial septal defect.
Twelve cases of endocardial cushion defect were studied before and after operation with ultrasono-cardiotomography (tomography) cross-sectional echocardiography, two-dimensional echocardiography, B-scan echocardiography) and M-mode scan along a horizontal section of the heart. For comparison, 20 healthy subjects, 18 cases of mitral valvular disease, 4 cases of congestive cardiomyopathy, 1 case ...
